The office of Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go provided assistance to underprivileged residents of Poro and Tudela towns in Camotes Island on Monday.

In a statement on Tuesday, Go said his office will continue to provide support to the vulnerable sector in Cebu, underscoring the need to attend to the plight of the poor amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

“The campaign season will only last for three months until election day. Meanwhile, we have an unseen enemy named Covid-19 in our midst that we need to address and overcome, together with poverty, joblessness and hunger which also need our utmost attention, in order to fulfill our promise of a more comfortable life for all,” he said.

In a video message during the distribution, he appealed to the recipients of the assistance to support each other, especially the health workers who are risking their lives on the frontlines.

The senator’s team provided meals, vitamins, masks, and face shields to a total of 3,050 residents in batches at the Tudela Civic Center and Poro municipal gym.

Selected residents got new pairs of shoes or bicycles that they can use to commute. Others received computer tablets so their children can easily access educational materials for their classes under the blended learning system.

In a separate distribution activity, personnel from the Department of Social Welfare and Development also handed out financial assistance to offset the impact of the pandemic.

The Department of Trade and Industry and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, in turn, conducted assessments of potential beneficiaries for their respective assistance programs. (PNA)
