PRRD Wants Proper Implementation Of Magna Carta For Women

President Rodrigo R. Duterte on Friday said he wants the government to properly implement the Magna Carta for Women, as the world celebrates International Women’s Day.

“This important occasion reminds us all to pave the way for an enabling environment for women to be empowered and to make sure that the Magna Carta for Women is properly implemented at all levels of government,” Duterte said in his International Women’s Day message.

The President expressed the need for the discussion of best practices in gender and development in local government units in the country.

“We must also create and facilitate platforms to discuss best practices, gaps and challenges in pursuing gender and development in local government units all over the country,” he said.

The President said functional mechanisms have to be put in place in order to “ensure that any development effort would be inclusive and gender responsive.”

“May this event serve as a testament to our firm commitment to always inform and engage various stakeholders – whether in the government, private sector or in civic organizations,” he said.

Duterte also called for solidarity from all sectors in order to address the strategic needs of women.

“Together, let us work in solidarity with all appropriate institutions to address the strategic needs of women and recognize their innumerable contributions to society,” he said. (PNA)
