Farmers are the backbone to every great nation. However, despite their great importance towards agriculture and in feeding the nation’s people; They still face major challenges such as inadequate government support, high input costs, and climate change.

It takes days and months for farmers to produce food before it is served to our warm tables. A single grain of rice can only be produced by the sweat of their brows, strength of their back and the determination boiling in their blood.

Here are 3 ways in which you can advocate for farmers:

1. Improve farmer’s image.

Farming can be seen as outdated, hard work and unprofitable. Creating awareness of the benefits of farming as a career needs to be built amongst the people, in particular, there are opportunities for greater market participation, innovation and farming as an enterprise. Social media can be used to improve the image of the farmer across a wide audience and to enable people and farmers to share data and experiences.

2. Use social media as a platform.

Social media is a great way to connect with people and have conversations about agriculture, using it as a tool for awareness and to amplify information. Awareness of the issue is essential by sharing social media posts and engaging in community conversations.

People nowadays have the advantage with the technology at hand, one click is all they need. It’s time we use it to promote our fellow farmers.

3. Volunteer in agricultural work

You can join a volunteer program to raise awareness about sustainable agricultural practices while gaining valuable life experiences. Agricultural volunteers support programs that enhance the ability of communities to increase crop yields, access financing and equipment and reach markets in order to sell their products.
