Taguig City’s efforts to contain and neutralize the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) is paying off as its recovery rate has now hit the 98.44 percent mark.

In a statement late Sunday, Mayor Lino Cayetano said this is higher than Metro Manila’s 95.19 percent recovery rate.

Cayetano also reported that the city’s case fatality rate — or the proportion of reported cases of Covid-19 which are fatal within a specified period — is only at 1.10 percent, lower than the 1.84 percent fatality rate recorded for Metro Manila.

“The attack rate in Taguig is also far lower than Metro Manila’s — 0.99 percent vis a vis 1.06 percent,” Cayetano said.

Attack rate is the proportion of those who became ill after a specified exposure to the Covid-19 virus.

Based on data from the City Epidemiology Disease Surveillance Unit as of December 5, Cayetano said Taguig’s five active cases per 100,000 population were far less than the 20 cases per 100,000 population registered by the National Capital Region (NCR).

Taguig’s 45 active cases are also one of the lowest in Metro Manila, after Malabon and Pateros, which registered 34 active cases each.

The city’s 9,749 total Covid-19 cases is only 6.6 percent of the 147,418 total Covid-19 cases reported by the NCR, also lower than the total Covid-19 cases reported in Seoul, South Korea, with 10,205; Tokyo, Japan with 43,426; and Toronto, Canada, with 44,279; for the same period.

Cayetano added that the latest Covid-19 data is proof of the bayanihan spirit in the city that sees the local government enforcing necessary safety and health protocols, and Taguigenos strictly following.

He urged Taguigenos to continue following those protocols that include social distancing, the wearing of face masks and face shields, and the frequent washing of hands.

“We can fight Covid-19 with the proper protocols, proper enforcement, and public cooperation. Let us continue to help each other to ensure our city remains safe,” he added.

In November, active Covid-19 cases in Taguig reached a record low 0.1 percent of all its total Covid-19 cases, making it the city with the lowest active Covid-19 cases in Metro Manila. (PNA)
