Are the efforts of authorities enough to combat the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) among commuters? For Representative Precious Hipolito Castelo, it’s not.
In an official release, Castelo bared that she is “alarmed” following the 42 positive cases between the depot and maintenance personnel of MRT-3.
The facility’s general manager is reportedly at the intensive care unit (ICU) due to the deadly virus as well.
“This report is alarming. It should prompt the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and health authorities to thoroughly disinfect all train cars and stations along the entire stretch of the system,” she said. “The underground depot at the North Avenue area in Quezon City should be extensively sanitized as well.
To fight the continuing threat of COVID-19, the Assistant Majority Leader calls for a “thorough” disinfection of the trains and stations.
For this matter, Castelo seeks the participation of DOTr and MRT-3 to lead the decontamination of units.
She also recommends the immediate RT-PCR or antigen testing of the staff across the stations.
MRT-3 consists of 13 stations namely North Avenue, Quezon Avenue, GMA Kamuning, Araneta Center Cubao, Santolan Annapolis, Ortigas, Shaw Boulevard, Boni, Guadalupe, Buendia, Ayala, Magallanes, and Taft Avenue.
