The Iloilo provincial government is putting in place a system that will make it easier to identify the status of roads from the provincial down to the barangays.
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr, in his regular press conference on Thursday, said he wanted a data-based approach on provincial road improvement projects.
With this, a map overlay of all provincial roads that will indicate if they are already concreted or not and with pending requests will be prepared.
He met with the provincial engineer’s office (PEO) earlier to discuss the status of infrastructure projects in the province.
“That is what we are doing. We are putting up a system so that the concreting of provincial roads will be clear,” he said during the press conference.
The province currently has a pending PHP302 million fund for road projects, he added.
Iloilo has roughly 600 kilometers of provincial road and more than 300 kilometers are already concreted.
He added that apart from provincial roads, barangay roads should also have a map overlay.
It has to be clear, he said, if which roads need maintenance work and those with requests for concreting.
Defensor said that they prepared criteria to prioritize the concreting of barangay roads because the provincial government could not afford to spend for their concreting or even re-graveling.
Apart from the concreting and re-graveling, there is also an ongoing road opening projects that are being done by the province or by the municipality in cooperation with the province.
The provincial government will be utilizing its Civil Defense Operations Center for the map overlay. (PNA)
