Tiktok is one of the most used apps in the Philippines today especially due to the lockdown where most people stay at home. With various viral dance crazes, makeup tutorials or the several dalgona coffee recipes, it is a social media platform that covers every topic within the sun. However, Tiktok is not only fun and games. It can also be a way to educate the people on different social issues. Here are four Tiktok content creators who have used their platforms to inform the public on recent issues that boggle society today.

yourlologab
yourlologab or Gab Campos is a young broadcast communication student who has continuously used his Tiktok to further educate his audience on different social issues – from jeepney phaseout to issues about sexual harassment, Gab has never been afraid of voicing out his own thoughts to the rest of the community. Sampayan Talks, where he talks about certain issues while clothes are left to dry in the background showcase how well-versed and passionate he is about the advocacies he is fighting for. The talks do not sound preachy or like a mundane lecture in class due to the way he connects political content with viral dance moves and witty satire. Although young, yourlologab proves that we can educate and inform others no matter the platform.

macoydubs

You may have come across Mark Averilla or more famously known as macoydubs from his Aunt Julie Tiktok videos where he performs as your resident sosyalin wine Tita. The relatability and humor of his posts have garnered him over 630,000 followers on Tiktok. However, not only does macoydubs excel in impersonating that Tita we all know, but he also adds national issues relevant to the youth today. He has injected the call to vote in 2022 and discourse on toxic masculinity while still entertaining his audience. Also, Macoydubs does not only use Tiktok as his platform to voice out his opinion, but he regularly joins forums and webinars to reach more Filipino youth especially in this current political climate.

Davaoconyo

Davaoconyo or Phillip Hernandez has over 702,000 followers and is one of the more well known Tiktok content creators in the Philippines. He mainly creates satirical content to release light and good vibes to his audience. His Tiktok content such as creating an advertisement for the new iPhone while injecting the calls for mass testing and other pandemic issues show how humor can still be an avenue to educate the people on different problems in society. Phillip is not afraid to be critical of the government while proudly showcasing where he comes from. He firmly believes that although we need to spread good vibes nowadays, it is also the time to be updated on the latest news and current affairs.

Anamapaa

Although new to the Tiktok scene compared to the content creators above, Ana Mapa has used the platform to educate others on the basic rules and information regarding Philippine government and politics. As a legal management major in De La Salle University (DLSU), she took the information she has acquired in her lectures to the TikTok world while garnering over 38,000 followers in a span of a year. This is especially important as Philippine laws get a bit confusing to the normal people like us with its deep Latin jargon. Ana uses different visuals and easy to understand words for us to learn more about the different laws passed in the country and why it is important for us in our daily lives.

These four young Filipinos have used Tiktok as a way for them to express themselves and their opinion regarding the recent happenings in the country. It is not enough for them to learn within the four walls of a classroom or office setting, but to share what they have learned to the Filipino public. They went outside of their bubble of privilege to educate their audiences.
