Additional quarantine facility made of container vans is ready to cater to “asymptomatic” Covid-19 patients in San Juan City.

In his social media post on Thursday, Mayor Francis Zamora announced that the quarantine facility will be opened on Friday.

Zamora said the newly built 52-bed quarantine facility is part of the Department of Public Works and Highway’s (DPWH) strategic plan to increase the country’s isolation capacity amid the prevailing health crisis.

“I am happy that the container van facility is now done. This means we are much more equipped now to take on more asymptomatic patients and those who are experiencing mild symptoms so they can no longer infect their loved ones at home,” he said.

Zamora said the national government’s initiative will help the city’s efforts to further contain the spread of Covid-19 infection and will also augment the city’s quarantine facility, he added.

To date, San Juan has 250 Covid-beds, 75 of which are at the San Juan Medical Center, 139 are at the Kalinga Center, and 36 beds are at the San Juan National High School Annex Basketball Court.

“The new quarantine facilities are clean, comfortable, and conducive in treating the patients. I am very happy with this partnership with DPWH,” he said.

As of Wednesday, San Juan’s Covid-19 active cases declined to 716 from 1,226, the highest recorded cases in the city last April 14.
