Typhoon Kiko slightly weakened as it left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 1:10 p.m. Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its 5 p.m. weather bulletin, the weather bureau said the center of the eye of Typhoon Kiko was located at 525 kilometers north of Itbayat, Batanes with maximum sustain winds of 165 kilometer per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 205 kph while moving northward at 25 kph.

The typhoon is forecast to move generally northward over the east China Sea heading towards eastern China, it added.

It said all Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) are now lifted but “enhanced southwest monsoon will bring occasional gusts reaching strong breeze to near gale strength over the coastal and upland/mountain areas of Northern Luzon, Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa.”

The southwest monsoon, still enhanced by Kiko, will also bring monsoon rains over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the western section of Central Luzon in the next 24 hours.

“Under these conditions, scattered to widespread flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides are possible especially in areas that are highly or very high susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps,” the weather bureau said.

The Visayas, Mindanao and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms. (PNA)
