Local government units (LGUs) in the province have been advised to set a specific day or time for the vaccination of teachers against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), as requested by the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Antique.

Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) Infectious Diseases Cluster head Sheree Vego, during a virtual press conference on Friday, said LGUs should prioritize teachers, considering that School Year 2021-2022 has begun.

Evely Remo, DepEd-Antique School Governance and Operations Division chief, said many teachers have requested a specific time or day for their vaccination.

“Many teachers were able to avail of Covid-19 vaccination in the three districts of Tobias Fornier, Pandan, and Sebaste because they were given priority by their LGUs,” she said.

Remo added that 3,082 out of the 6,957 teachers and non-teaching staff of DepEd-Antique have availed of the vaccines.

Teachers are under the A4 priority group or the economic sector while some belong to the A2 or senior citizens and A3 or those with comorbidities.

Meanwhile, IPHO Health Officer 1, Dr. Leoncio Abiera, Jr., in the same press conference, said 11,474 doses of Sinovac and 80 doses of AstraZeneca intended as the first dose are available in LGUs, as shown in their September 12 inventory.

For the second dose, available are 15,679 doses of Sinovac, 1,875 doses of AstraZeneca, and 3,230 doses of Moderna. (PNA)
