Against the backdrop of the new housing program in Baseco compound in Tondo, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso formally announced his bid for Presidency in the 2022 elections with popular online personality Dr. Willie Ong as his Vice President.
He emphasized the state of the city of Manila amid the COVID-19 pandemic and economic recession and how his leadership’s vision, efforts, and effective responses have helped his constituents survive and recover from the hardships the country is still facing until now. “If the virus respects no political boundaries, then our compassion must not stop at the city boundaries. So, what we had, we shared with them,” he stated.
“Nakilala niyo po ako ng tapat sa pamahalaan, at totoong pananalita. Hardwork and straight talk, whether it is about city projects, or personal beliefs, I convey it with candor, and I do not play coy. Real talk lang po palagi,” Moreno expressed. “Kaya buong kababaang loob, ipinahahayag ko sa inyong mga kababayan ko, sa darating na Mayo, tanggapin niyo po ang aking application bilang pangulo ng Pilipinas.”
Moreno said that ambition did not encourage him to run for presidency given the lack of political pedigree that children from political dynasties are born with. But the tragic state of the country pushed him to run for presidency.
“I do not run on promises, I run on prototypes,” Moreno asserted. “I believe in the power of example, I also recognize the need for constant innovation. I may not give you a perfect government, but together, we can make it better.”
The Mayor of Manila said that he will be “healing president” and has no problems working with people who have different political beliefs as long as they are one in serving the country.
“We will be a government of national reconstruction, based on justice and rule of law. Hindi ko po isisisi sa nakaraan ang mga problemang ating kakaharapin. We can only move forward on our road to recovery if we are not consumed and immobilized by the rearview mirror politics.”
Moreno is the third politician to throw his hat in the 2022 presidential bid after Senators Panfilo Lacson and Manny Pacquiao.
