Incumbent Iloilo Mayor Jerry Treñas filed his Certificate of Candidacy today, October 6, through his representative City Administrator Melchor Tan.
In his Facebook post, Treñas shared what happened during the EDSA Revolution that ignited his will to serve and in pursuing a place of love and peace.
“For more than three decades of building what the City of Love is today, as a Councilor, Mayor and Congressman, I still have so much in store for my beloved metro. This is another season of taking another step towards achieving my vision. Just like the previous years, I always begin my day in prayer in hopes of extending my duty as a public servant especially during this unprecedented time brought by the pandemic,” he said.
The incumbent mayor won the mayoralty race against his brother-in-law in the 2019 elections. Treñas was recently honored as a Presidential Lingkod ng Bayan Awardee under the Civil Service Commission’s Search for Outstanding Government Workers. Outside of the National Capital Region, Trenas ranked sixth among the top-performing city mayors in the country.
During his term as mayor, the Iloilo City warehouse was opened which serves as a storage facility for all documents of the LGU. His administration has been known for upholding W.H.E.E.L.S. (Welfare, Health, Environment, Education, Livelihood, and Sustainability) for development.
Treñas’ filed his candidacy with his supporters from Team Uswag Iloilo. He will run under the National Union Party.
