Incumbent Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has withdrawn her re-election bid for Mayoral seat in Davao City today, November 9, 2021.
Inday Sara announced her withdrawal through a Facebook post, stating “Ngayong hapon wini-withdraw ko ang aking kandidatura sa pagka-Mayor ng Davao City. Si VM Baste ang papalit sa akin. Ito lamang po muna. Maraming salamat po.”
The presidential daughter endorsed her brother, Vice Mayor Baste Duterte, to replace her seeking Davao’s top post. And in an edited Facebook post, Sara mentioned Atty. Melchor Quitain as the vice mayor candidate of the city. Baste Duterte also earlier announced his withdrawal from the vice mayoral race.
Initially, even before Sara Duterte’s withdrawal, President Rodrigo Duterte had stated that his daughter would vie for presidency alongside his right-hand man, Sen. Bong Go, who is already an official candidate for the vice-presidency.
Mayor Duterte filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) on October 2, 2021, seeking re-election as Davao City’s mayor. Sara also said that she and her father, President Duterte had agreed that only one between the two of them would run for a national post next year.
