Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) seeking the country’s second highest position on Saturday, November 13 under Lakas-CMD, the political party of former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Sara Duterte-Carpio, through her representative Atty. Charo Munsayac, filed her candidacy today as the substitute for Lakas-CMD’s original vice presidential candidate, Lyle Uy. The daughter of the outgoing Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte resigned from her regional party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) days after she withdrew her mayoral candidacy seeking re-election in Davao City on November 9. Two days after, she officially took her oath as a member of the Lakas-CMD Party on November 11.
Duterte-Carpio earlier announced that she has no plans on seeking a national post despite leading previous presidential surveys as a presidential candidate for the 2022 national polls.
Meanwhile, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) presidential standard-bearer Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., released a resolution adopting Sara Duterte as their official candidate for vice president; officializing the Marcos-Duterte tandem for the 2022 elections.
Sara Duterte-Carpio will be going up against vice presidential aspirants Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, Senate President Vicente “Tito Sotto” III, Doc. Willie Ong, and her father’s right-hand man Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go among other candidates.
The Commission on Elections officially allows the substitution of candidates for the May 2022 national elections until November 15, 2021.
