Former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar is joining the senatorial race in the 2022 polls under the Partido Reporma of standard bearer Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and running mate Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.

Earlier today, the former PNP chief joined presidential and vice presidential aspirants Ping Lacson and Tito Sotto, respectively, to visit Pampanga for a press conference with the members of the media at the LausGroup Event Centre in San Fernando City.

Senator and presidential aspirant Panfilo Lacson confirmed through a text message that ex-top cop Eleazar will gun for a Senate seat under his ticket.

“Yes, I confirm that he will run under Partido Reporma to substitute for Paolo Capino who has announced his intention to withdraw from the senatorial race yesterday (Friday),” Lacson answered to a reporter’s inquiry.

Senator Ping Lacson and General Guillermo Eleazar are both graduates of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) who both served as chief of the Philippine National Police. Lacson during Estrada’s incumbency and Eleazar in the Duterte cabinet. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar is the 6th PNP chief appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Gen. Eleazar officially retired as the PNP chief on Saturday, November 13 as he reached the age of 56, the mandatory age retirement for police and military personnel.  He was succeeded by Lt. Gen. Dionardo Carlos.

The ex-PNP chief and senatorial aspirant is yet to file his certificate of candidacy (COC) to officially join the 2022 senate polls.
