Malacañang on Tuesday assured it will turn over all the government’s Covid-19 pandemic response and strategic plans to the next administration.
Acting Presidential spokesperson, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, said Phase 5 of the government’s Covid-19 National Action Plan (NAP 5) will secure a smooth transition of the pandemic response strategies.
“Iyang document na yan (That document) [under NAP 5], plus all the accomplishments in terms of vaccination rate, in terms of compliance with the safety seal, in terms of the compliance in the minimum public health standards. Lahat po iyan ay aming itu-turn over sa next administration (We will turn over all of these to the next administration),” Nograles said.
The NAP 5 includes strategies on protecting the community and the people against the pandemic while accelerating the economic growth of the country so that more people can revive their livelihoods, he added.
“The end of the pandemic, that’s actually a technical and medical term, so we will leave that up to the health experts to define and actually state kung na narating na ba natin ‘yung point na iyan (if we have reached that point),” Nograles said when asked if the government sees the end of the pandemic before President Rodrigo Duterte steps down from office.
To finally halt the pandemic in the country, Nograles said the country’s vaccination rate must be further increased.
“Para marating natin yung state na iyan, importante po na mataas yung vaccination coverage po natin and lahat po tayo ay nagko-comply sa (To reach that state, it is important that we have high vaccination coverage and everyone is compliant to the) minimum public health standards,” Nograles said.
The Philippines has administered 132,031,140 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, with 61,225,811 Filipinos now fully vaccinated, including those who received the single-dose Janssen and Sputnik Light jabs.
Some 9,161,128 fully protected Filipinos have received additional doses or booster shots. (PNA)
