Naghain si Senator Jinggoy Estrada ng Senate Bill No. 680 o ang Language Accessibility of Public Information on Disasters Act na naglalayong gawing mas inklusibo ang mga public service announcements (PSA) sa pamamagitan ng pagsalin ng mga ito sa Pilipino at iba pang katutubong wika.

Ayon kay Estrada, mas magiging mabisa ang pagbabahagi ng impormasyon dahil mas naiintindihan ng mga Pilipino ang wikang kanilang kinalakihan kaysa Ingles, lenggwaheng ginagamit ng ahensya ng gobyerno kapag naglalabas ng mga paalala patungkol sa sakuna.

“Getting reliable, updated information in the most convenient way, written in languages spoken in the impacted communities when communication becomes especially critical, can help ensure public safety, protect property, elicit cooperation, and facilitate response efforts,” sabi ni Estrada.

Kabilang na rin sa mga isasalin ay ang mga impormasyon ukol sa social amelioration programs, emergency assistance, at iba pang mga anunsyo.

“More important than economic loss is the danger and the loss of lives of the people because of insufficient or inappropriate communication – misinformation, miscommunication, lack of information in far-flung areas – from authorities to their constituents during times of disasters and calamities,” dagdag ni Estrada.
