The Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) and the US Marine Corps (USMC) are planning to further strengthen their cooperation by developing and implementing a combined integrated readiness plan.
“This involves conducting military exercises, enhancing mutual defense systems, harnessing marine security, and establishing rapid mobility in an archipelagic environment. The PMC and the USMC Forces, Pacific plan to develop an integrated combined operating framework to align their activities,” said PMC spokesperson Major Emery Torre in a statement Friday.
The proposal was discussed during the visit of USMC commandant, Gen. David H. Berger, and his staff to the PMC headquarters in Fort Bonifacio last Sept. 5.
During the visit, Berger and PMC chief Maj. Gen. Charlton Sean M. Gaerlan talked about continuing collaborative efforts to strengthen their partnership.
“Gen. Berger affirmed the importance of future engagements and bilateral exercises and emphasized United States’ commitment to strengthening the relationship between the two countries and maintaining peace and stability in the region while improving interoperability to respond to crises and contingencies,” Torre said. (PNA)
