The four pillars of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Basic Education Program 2030 — access, equity, quality, and governance — were highlighted by Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte.

She said in a video message for the Education department’s First 100 Days that the Basic Education Development Plan (BEDP) 2030 from the previous administration of former Education Secretary Leonor Briones was embraced by the Marcos administration because it recognized the need of continuity in government programs.

According to Duterte, “BEDP 2030 is designed to address the immediate impacts of the pandemic on learning participation, and education delivery, address the remaining access gaps, improve education quality and build resilience.”

She continued by saying that DepEd is still evaluating the institutionalization of blended learning and online classes in basic education. In-person classes resumed successfully on August 22.

Duterte said the new administration was able to “sustain the review of the K to Grade 10 program from the previous administration and is set to start reviews for Grades 11 and 12,” in keeping with its goal to raise the caliber of education.

She added by saying that the Department of Budget and Management had given the Marcos administration approval to create 5,000 administrative positions for the year 2023, showing that they are equally concerned about the welfare of teachers.

As stated in Republic Act 11466, the Marcos government ensured that teachers would get the final payment of their salary rise in 2023.

“The DepEd, under the leadership of President Bongbong Marcos Jr. is committed to the goal for all Filipinos to realize their full potential and contribute meaningfully to a cohesive nation through the protection and promotion of the right to education,” Duterte said.
