President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. appointed filmmaker Paul Soriano as Presidential Adviser for Creative Communications, according to a report from Philippine News Agency (PNA).

Marcos’ first State of the Nation Address and first 100 Days recap were both directed by him. Since Marcos’ time as vice governor until his election to the presidency, Soriano has also been the voice behind his political advertisements.

The filmmaker also supported Marcos’ election campaign alongside his wife, Toni Gonzaga, an actress. The President’s guesting on ToniTalks’ initial YouTube premiere was also Soriano’s suggestion.

Paul is the nephew of First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos through her first cousin, Gines Soriano.

At the 2012 Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) Awards, he won for the film “Thelma” in the categories of Best Director and Best Screenplay. For the film “Siargao,” Soriano was also named Best Director at the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

Additionally, he has received nominations at the Tokyo International Film Festival, the Golden Screen Awards, the FAP Awards, the Gawad Urian, and the MMFF.
