President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday expressed optimism that the Philippines’ partnerships with the Japanese business community would continue to thrive under his leadership.

Marcos made the statement during the high-power luncheon and networking event organized by premier Japanese business organization in Tokyo.

In a keynote speech, Marcos hailed the “unique” business landscape in Japan, noting the centric opportunities for various industries such as manufacturing, construction, real estate, retail, food service, trading, telecommunications, aviation, recruitment, mining and agribusiness.

“Indeed, there is much to be admired about Japan’s unique business landscape where networks of independent manufacturers, supply, chain partners, distributors and financiers work efficiently and harmoniously to ensure the success of the whole,” he said.

Citing the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) report, Marcos welcomed the result of the business matching event arranged by the department which yielded over 255 meetings between Filipino and Japanese business leaders.

This, as Marcos noted that he was accompanied by an “equally diverse” group of 114 Filipino businessmen in his five-day official visit to Japan.

The Philippine business delegation, Marcos said, joined the Tokyo trip to grab the opportunities that would help their businesses grow.

“On top of forging new connections in business, our delegates are also here on a mission to listen, to observe, to learn and then act on the opportunities and new knowledge. I hope that the synergies that we establish with our Japanese partners today will continue to grow,” Marcos said.

Marcos hoped that partnerships with Japanese business leaders and investors would result in a “life-long friendship” between Tokyo and Manila.

“Hopefully, beyond profit and commerce, these partnerships will now extend to life-long friendship which will promote and will encourage the deepening and the strengthening of the ties between Japan and the Philippines,” he said.

The high-power luncheon and networking event serves as a platform for the Philippines to forge new connections in business, as well as to establish new opportunities and knowledge in advancing the country’s partnership with Japan’s business sector.

Among the attendees were the officials and executives of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), Japan-Philippines Economic Cooperation Committee, Mitsubishi Corporation and Marubeni Corporation. (PNA)
