Naniniwala si Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. na kabiyak ng pagpapabuti ng pampublikong transportasyon sa bansa ay ang paglikha ng mas maraming trabaho.
Binanggit niya na makakagawa ng maraming trabaho ang implementasyon ng North-South Commuter Railway System (NSCRS) sa ceremonial signing ng contract package ng electromechanical systems at track works para sa proyekto.
“It will strengthen what we have seen our weaknesses in the supply chain, that have been brought about by the pandemic economy, that have been brought about by the crisis in Ukraine and that we now must attend to if we are going to be able to say that we will grow the economy, that we will make it stronger, we will make it more sustainable, and we will make it more effective at improving the lives of our countrymen,” ayon kay Marcos.
Dagdag rin niya na ang proyekto ay isang “landmark initiative” sa bansa. “These endeavors will mark a new era of prosperity for the Philippines at a time when we are navigating ourselves in what has become called the New Normal,” pahayag ng pangulo.
Ang NSCRS ay isang 147.26 kilometro na railway project na magkokonekta sa Clark, Pampanga at Calamba City sa Laguna. Parte ito ng orihinal na NSCR Project, Malolos-Clark Railway Project at North-South Railway Project-South Line Commuter o ang South Commuter Railway Project.
Pagkatapos nito makumpleto sa 2029, inaasahan na makakatulong ang NSCR system na bawasan ang oras ng biyahe sa pagitan ng Clark International Airport at Calamba City nang dalawang oras.
Inaasahan na magkakaroon ng 800,000 na pasahero bawat araw ang rail line na proyekto ng administrasyon.
Ang kabuuang halaga ng proyekto ay P873.62 bilyon na popondohan ng Asian Development Bank at Japan International Cooperation Agency.
