A magnitude 5.1 quake hit Ilocos Norte on Friday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs’ initial bulletin showed that the tectonic quake struck 39 kilometers northwest of the municipality of Burgos at 9:23 p.m. It was 12 km deep.
It logged the following instrumental intensities using an intensity meter that measures ground acceleration:
Intensity III – Pasuquin, Batac and Laoag,Ilocos Norte
Intensity I – Sinait and Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
Aftershocks are likely, but the damage is not expected from the magnitude 5.1 quake, Phivolcs said. (PNA)
