The local government here has declared a state of calamity after the onslaught of Super Typhoon Egay and Typhoon Falcon and the prevailing southwest monsoon.

The Sangguniang Bayan (municipal council), through the recommendation of Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil, adopted Resolution 475, a copy of which was obtained by the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Saturday, placing the town under a state of calamity.

“The SB deemed it imperative to declare the municipality of Lingayen under a state of calamity to utilize quick response fund to give aid to the victims of succeeding typhoons and habagat,” the resolution said.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, in a statement, said all of the town’s 32 barangays have been affected by flooding.

At least 12,663 families or 51,455 individuals were affected by the torrential rains and flooding, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

About 11 houses were damaged and one was destroyed.

Initial damage to agriculture was pegged at PHP47 million.

The local government, through the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, has already distributed PHP349,300 worth of food assistance, PHP15,200 in medicine, and more than 200 bags of rice to the affected villages. (PNA)
