The Manila City government has given the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) until next week to complete the rehabilitation of the Lagusnilad Underpass.

“Currently, the construction being done on the underpass is under the DPWH. The Mayor (Honey Lacuna) has given them the final deadline to finish all work until Nov. 15,” lawyer Princess Abante, Mayor Honey Lacuna’s spokesperson, said in a message on Wednesday.

The budget for the project is PHP75 million– PHP50 million from the city government and PHP25 million from the national government through the DPWH.

Meanwhile, the DPWH said it would request for an extension from the city government to be able to finish its rehabilitation works on the thoroughfare.

“The target completion date of the project will be on November 30, 2023,” the agency said in a statement.

“Furthermore, if good weather conditions continue within the vicinity, the contractor is on its fast- track execution to accommodate with the target accomplishment of this office,” it added.

The rehabilitation of the Lagusnilad, an underpass where public and private motorists pass through going to Taft Avenue from Manila’s Quiapo, Sta. Cruz and Binondo districts, started in May this year. (PNA)
