Tila tinabla ni Senador Imee Marcos ang kanyang pinsan na si House Speaker Martin Romualdez pagdating sa usaping Charter change.

“Ang kulit naman. Talagang sinabi na ni [President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.] na di napapanahon kasi dapat nakatutok tayo sa hanapbuhay ng tao at sa presyo ng bigas at bilihin,” pahayag niya.

Nagpahayag din ng pag-aalinlangan si Sen. Marcos at iginiit na hindi napapanahon ang mga panukalang pag-amyenda sa 1987 Constitution. 

Idiniin pa ng mambabatas na dalawang beses nang tinanggihan ng Senado ang panukalang Charter change, at kinukuwestiyon ang pagpupursige na ituloy ang usapin.

“Bat ba pinagpipilitan..? Baka may gusto mag-Prime Minister na hindi manalo sa Presidente,” pasaring niya.

Matatandaang kinumpirma ni Romualdez ang intensyon ng Kamara na itulak ang mga amendment sa 1987 Constitution sa 2024. Binigyang-diin niya ang pagtutok sa mga probisyon sa ekonomiya, at iginiit na napapanahon ang muling pagbisita sa konstitusyon.

“I believe 2024 will allow us again to revisit the whole issue of the constitution because I think it’s timely that we revisit and I say we’d like to focus very much on the economic provisions,” ayon kay Romualdez. 

We would be studying this over the [Christmas] break. And perhaps there might be some initiatives even during the break that would prepare us for the ensuing year and perhaps what would be our legacy in the 19th Congress, which is to review and revisit the 1987 Constitution and make it more attuned, sensitive and responsive to the times,” dagdag niya.
