Walang Ganon! FPRRD Todo Deny Sa ‘Gentleman’s Agreement’ Sa China

Itinanggi ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang sinasabing “gentleman’s agreement” sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at China hinggil sa West Philippine Sea (WPS) noong kanyang administrasyon. 

“There is no agreement, as is where it is,” aniya sa isang press briefing at binigyang-diin na ang mga naturang kasunduan ay hindi isang presidential practice.

Nilinaw ni Duterte na walang opisyal sa Pilipinas, kabilang ang mga nasa Korte Suprema, Panguluhan, o Kongreso, ang may awtoridad na pumayag sa anumang bagay tungkol sa mga usapin sa teritoryo. 

Aniya, ang mga talakayan nila ni Chinese President Xi Jinping ay nakatuon lamang sa pagpapanatili ng status quo upang maiwasan ang mga armed patrol sa mga teritoryo sa WPS at maiwasan ang lumalalang tensyon.

“If it were a gentleman’s agreement, it would always have been an agreement to keep the peace in the South China Sea,” giit ng dating pangulo. Nangako rin siya ng karagdagang pahayag tungkol sa isyu sa mga susunod na araw para sa ikalilinaw ng isyu.

“I will be expressing more [in the coming days] because I just received all documents of Malacañang about foreign policy. I just got it tonight, and I want to review all the agreements that we entered into by the defense department and me.”

Ikinuwento rin ni Duterte ang pakikipag-usap kay Xi sa kanyang pagbisita sa China, kung saan iginiit niya ang pagmamay-ari ng Pilipinas sa ilang bahagi ng China Sea.
