Tila pinasaringan ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos ang madugong war on drugs ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte nang sabihin niyang walang “extermination” at “bloodless” ang kanyang kampanya laban sa iligal na droga.

“Our bloodless war on dangerous drugs adheres, and will continue to adhere, to the established ‘8 Es’ of an effective anti-illegal drugs strategy,” deklara ni Marcos sa kanyang katatapos lang na ikatlong State of the Nation Address. “Extermination was never one of them.”

Matatandaang ang kontrobersyal na war on drugs ni Duterte, na inilunsad noong 2016, ay namarkahan ng malawakang alegasyon ng mga pang-aabuso sa karapatang pantao, extrajudicial killings, at iba pang marahas na aksyon. Iginiit ng administrasyong Duterte na ang kampanya ay mahalaga sa pagsugpo sa talamak na problema sa droga sa bansa, ngunit umani ito ng mga batikos sa loob at labas ng bansa.

Samantala, iniulat ni Marcos na sa ilalim ng kanyang administrasyon, mahigit 71,500 na operasyon ang nagresulta sa pagkakasamsam ng mahigit P44 bilyong halaga ng iligal na droga. Ang mga operasyong ito ay humantong din sa pag-aresto sa mahigit 97,000 drug personalities, kabilang ang higit sa 6,000 high-value target.

Binigyang-diin niya na sa mga naaresto, 440 ang mga empleyado ng gobyerno, 42 dito ay mga uniformed personnel, at 77 ay mga elected official. 

“To further paralyze their operations, dirty money and assets worth more than five hundred million pesos have been frozen and preserved. With strong case build-up and efficient prosecution, the drug conviction rate is at a high of seventy-nine percent.”

Ibinida rin ng pangulo ang malaking pagbagsak sa bilang ng mga lugar na apektado ng droga sa buong bansa.

“More importantly, we welcome the report that the number of drug-affected barangays in our country has been reduced by thirty-two percent.”
