Nanawagan si Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III sa Department of Transportation (DOTr) na maglabas ng polisiya para magkaroon ng automatic cash refund para sa kanselado o significantly delayed flights, katulad ng sistema sa United States (US).

Sa ilalim ng patakaran ng US, kinakailangang ibigay agad ng mga airline ang cash refund nang walang hinihinging request mula sa pasahero. Sakop din ng polisiya ang delayed baggage refunds.

“I hope that Filipino travelers could benefit from similar passenger protections. Both local and international travelers should be reimbursed for the inconvenience caused by flight delays and cancellations,” ani Pimentel. 

Idiniin niya na makakatulong ang ganitong hakbang para hindi masira ang bakasyon o trip ng mga pasahero dahil sa delayed o canceled flights. Kasabay nito, maiiwasan din daw ng mga airline na pabayaang mapababa ang kalidad ng kanilang serbisyo.

Binigay na halimbawa ng mambabatas ang insidente noong July 19, kung saan libo-libong pasahero ang naperwisyo sa flight cancellations at delays matapos magkaaberya ang isang Microsoft system na nakaapekto sa operasyon nito sa buong mundo.

Bilang pagtugon, iminungkahi niya na seryosohin ng gobyerno ang ganitong mga problema upang mapanagot ang mga airline company. Para sa senador, malaking “social injustice” kung hindi makakakuha ng proteksyon ang mga biyahero sa mga problemang tulad nito.

“What we want to prevent is to ruin what should be a good and pleasant experience, travel, or vacation, by making these airlines accountable and ensuring that passengers get a refund without delay,” aniya.
