Nananawagan si Senador Joel Villanueva sa administrasyong Marcos na gawing urgent ang panukalang batas sa wage hike upang maiangat ang kalidad ng pamumuhay ng mga manggagawang Pilipino.

Bilang chairman ng Senate Committee on Labor, Employment, and Human Resource Development, binigyang-diin ni Villanueva na bagaman lumago ng 5.6% ang ekonomiya ng Pilipinas noong 2024, dapat itong madama ng mga manggagawa.

“The window for the 19th Congress is slowly closing, which is why we need to speed up discussions and ensure the bill’s enactment before we adjourn,” ani Villanueva.

Dagdag pa niya, sa harap ng patuloy na pagtaas ng presyo ng mga bilihin, kailangang tiyakin na sapat ang kita ng bawat manggagawa upang mamuhay nang disente.

“Sa taas ng presyo ng bilihin, kailangan rin po nating siguraduhin na may kakayahang mamuhay nang maayos ang ating mga kababayan.”

Samantala, ikinatuwa rin ni Villanueva ang patuloy na deliberasyon sa House of Representatives kaugnay ng panukalang PHP200 minimum wage hike.

Ang Senate Bill 2534 o ang P100 Minimum Wage Hike Increase Bill, na siya ring co-author ni Villanueva, ay naaprubahan na sa ikatlong pagbasa sa Senado noong Pebrero 19, 2024.

“At the end of the day, what is important is that we can match our workers’ wages to the living wage,” aniya.
