The Senate will prioritize the passage of key measures endorsed by the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC), with a target to approve at least 17 priority bills before June, Senate President Vicente Sotto III said Tuesday.

In a chance interview, Sotto said the caucus agreed to expedite the bills in the legislative calendar, particularly those included in the LEDAC list.

He noted that some measures have been “sleeping in committee,” especially the top 14 among the 48 bills listed under the LEDAC agenda.

“’Yun ang mga more or less isa sa major topics (That was more or less one of the major topics),” he said, referring to discussions during the Senate caucus.

“Sa 17 na nakalista sa amin, kailangan by June nakapasa na (Of the 17 listed with us, they need to be passed by June),” he added.

He clarified that the Senate would remain in session until June, with only a scheduled Easter break.

“Hanggang June. Meron lang break. May Easter break pero walang problema (Until June. There’s just a break. There’s an Easter break but no problem),” he said.

Among the measures discussed in the caucus was the proposed Anti-Political Dynasty bill, which Sotto described as “good” and one of the items taken up.

He acknowledged that the measure is expected to undergo lengthy interpellations.

On a resolution filed by members of the minority bloc regarding protection against extraordinary rendition, Sotto said it remains scheduled for interpellation. (PNA)
