Informal settlers will soon become condominium owners by September 2021 when they start living in Tondominiums built under the administration of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno under the city’s Build, Build Manila program.
The Tondominiums is part of the Build, Build Manila that provides a vertical housing program to provide housing for informal settlers. Floor area for each unit is 42 square meters and has two bedrooms. Tondominiums 1 and 2 are located at Vitas, Manila’s most densely populated slum areas while the Binondominiums are located in Del Pan started construction last July 2020.
Mayor Isko said that the city government borrowed P5 billion from the Development Bank of the Philippines and P10 billion from Land of the Philippines for these housing projects. Aside from the condo units, the money borrowed from the banks will also be used to build healthcare facilities, parks and activity areas like basketball courts in the two communities.
Thirty five percent (35%) of Manila’s government housing program is dedicated to the working class and informal settlers giving them an opportunity to live with dignity and respect.
