Presidential Communication Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar said his office has started reviewing the request for a government-owned FM frequency in Palawan which will be used for online distance learning as radio-based teaching.
In a radio interview on Tuesday, September 14, Andanar said that he will be waiting for a letter from Puerto Princesa City Councilor Elgin Damasco, which should also be addressed to Director General Aportadera of the Philippine Broadcasting Service to formally start the review.
“Padalhan mo ako ng sulat naka-address sa akin at kay Director General Aportada ng Philippine Broadcasting Service tapos pag-uusapan namin yan pag natanggap ko yung sulat,” Andanar said.
Damasco is petitioning the PCOO to establish a radio station, where students can have a school-on-the-air program or a radio-based teaching in their province. It was a request made due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has greatly affected the students’ learning process because there are no face-to-face classes for almost two years now.
“Humihingi po ako ng tulong sa inyo dahil for almost 2 years halos wala pong natututunan yung ating mga estudyante dito po sa lungsod ng Puerto Princesa, dahil nga po walang face-to-face classes.” Damasco appealed.
In the same interview, Andanar cited PCOO’s partnerships with various government offices like the Department of Education that airs DepEd TV on IBC-13 to make information more accessible to the public.
