Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao on Monday urged local government units (LGUs) in the province, often hit by flooding and landslides,to look for permanent safe relocation site for their constituents.

Antique PDDRM officer Broderick Train said they had since been campaigning for LGUs to look for relocation sites because it is also expensive to conduct evacuation during calamities.

“The LGUs, however, are constrained by their budget that until now they could not purchase relocation site that is resilient,” Train said in a separate interview.

The municipalities of Sibalom, San Remigio, Hamtic, Anini-y, and Tobias Fornier suspended classes on Monday to ensure the safety of the learners from floods and landslides because of the heavy rainfall caused by the southwest monsoon.

Train said they recorded a mudslide in Barangay Igbarawan, Patnongon, due to the heavy rains and a landslide in an interior barangay of Tobias Fornier.

On Sept. 22, the towns San Jose de Buenavista, Sibalom, San Remigio, Hamtic, Tobias Fornier, and Belison also declared class suspension because of the heavy rainfall caused by the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone.

Meanwhile, Cadiao said that the provincial government will be releasing assistance to families whose houses were damaged by the southwest monsoon and enhanced by Typhoon Goring in August.

Using the province’s PHP9 million Quick Response Fund, 92 households with destroyed houses will receive PHP10,000 each and PHP5,000 for 495 with partially damaged houses. (PNA)
