Opisyal nang nilagdaan ni Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. bilang batas ang Republic Act No. 11954 na magtatatag ng Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF), sa seremonyang idinaos sa Malacañang.

Sa kaniyang talumpati, sinabi ni Marcos na ang paglikha ng kauna-unahang sovereign wealth fund ay isang matapang na hakbang patungo sa makahulugang economic transformation. 

“We are talking about all of those elements that the post pandemic economy has shown us are necessary for us to be able to transform Philippines into a country that not only is investment friendly but also is competitive in the rest of the world. That is the point of this fund.”

Tinugunan niya ang mga naririnig na iba’t-ibang komento ukol sa dapat na mas gastusan ng pera na dapat umano sa agrikultura, imprastraktura, at energy development. Ayon sa Pangulo, hindi ito gagamitin sa pagbili ng luxury cars o mga yate, bagkus ay malayo raw ito sa katotohanan. 

“We take into account the fact that the numbers we project would mean nothing if they are not seen or felt by the ordinary citizen.”

Sa paglagda ng MIF Act, naghahanda na ang administrasyon ng implementing rules at regulations para sa paglikha ng Maharlika Investments Corporation, na magsisilbing tanging daan para sa pagpapakilos at paggamit ng MIF para sa mga investments sa mga transaksyon para makagawa ng optimal returns on investments. 

Target ng MIF na mamuhunan sa malawak na hanay ng assets, kabilang ang foreign currencies, fixed-income instruments, domestic and foreign corporate bonds, joint ventures, mergers at acquisitions, real estate at high-impact infrastructure projects, at iba pang proyekto na makakapag-ambag sa pagkamit ng sustainable development.
