BHW Party-list Representative Angelica Natasha Co recommends the utilization of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act to reduce the taxes for the procurement of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) vaccines.

Under the Section 1609, the Committee on Economic Affairs member calls on the National Economic and Development Authority to make this proposal possible.

“Section 1609 gives the Executive Branch, via NEDA, authority to change the import duties or the classification of products through recommendation to the President. The import duties can be suspended and import restrictions can be modified,” she said.

“Maaari ring gamitin ang TRAIN Law bilang dagdag paraan upang mura ang halaga ng pagbabakuna para sa mga mahihirap dahil mayroong probisyon TRAIN Law para sa anuman social safety net na maisipan ng gobyerno,” she added.

Enacted in 2018, the Train Law or Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion implemented significant changes among taxpayers. This includes reduction of personal income tax, increased taxes on cigarettes, cars and manufactured oils, and taxes on sweetened beverages and non-essential services.
