Former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. had just officially announced his presidential bid for Malacañang this coming May 2022 elections, marking the family’s second attempt to return to the Palace.
The son and namesake of the late president Ferdinand Marcos is now seeking a political comeback after failing to secure his bid for vice presidency six years ago. He filed an electoral protest against incumbent VP Leni Robredo but lost based on the decision of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal.
This morning, the former Senator made a post on his Facebook page, announcing that he had joined Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), which was formed by Agrarian Reform Secretary John Castriciones and other allies of the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte in 2018. Following his oath-taking as one of PFP’s members, Marcos is now appointed as its chairman.
Marcos was previously with the Villar-led Nacionalista Party. Hours after he had confirmed his transfer to the PFP that endorsed him for president, Marcos confirmed his bid for the presidency.
“That is why I am announcing here today my intention to run for the Presidency of the Philippines in the coming May 2022 elections. Join me in this noblest of causes and we will succeed,” Marcos said in a declaration aired through Facebook.
Weeks before his announcement, Marcos was nominated by the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL), which was founded by his father, to run for presidency. Based on the Pulse Asia pre-election survey, Marcos ranked second for presidency, behind Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte who claims to have no plans in running for the top post in the country.
