Amid the widespread job losses caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel wants to triple the amount of unemployment insurance that laid off workers can claim from the Social Security System.
“It’s done. Both panels are now ready to sign. The secretariats are now preparing the final copy, we will sign this weekend, and ratify by Monday or Tuesday,” Salceda said in a statement.
“I urge the government to support the Bayanihan sa Bakuna Act because it will expedite procurement, rollout, and administration of vaccines. No point in gradual reopening of the economy if we will not give people the confidence to go out” Salceda said.
Failure to relax age restrictions for people who can leave their residences amid the COVID-19 pandemic may lead to “economic deterioration,” Malacañang cautioned.
“The recovery will enter three stages: short, medium, and long-term. The vaccine is our immediate-term intervention. So we need to get it out fast, before anything else," Salceda urged.
Anakalusugan Representative Mike Defensor called on the government agencies to hire around 700,000 casual employees, whose employment contracts expired last December 31, 2020.
