The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday said its main office in Intramuros will be closed starting Thursday for two weeks due to the reported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
In a statement, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said the main office will remain closed until March 24.
The Offices of the Regional Election Director of the National Capital Region (NCR), Region IV-A, and Region IV-B will also remain closed.
“The temporary closure of offices is being implemented as a precautionary measure, to prevent the further spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, in view of reports of documented recent transmission of the Covid-19 disease among employees,” he said, but the number of workers infected with Covid-19 was not mentioned.
The Comelec official assured that preparations for the Palawan plebiscite on March 13 and the May 2022 polls would continue.
“We wish to assure the public, however, that work remains unhampered. Preparations for the Palawan Plebiscite as well as the 2022 National and Local Elections are underway and will continue to be undertaken by the officials and employees responsible,” Jimenez added.
For queries, he said the public may contact Comelec offices through their emails and social media accounts.
“The offices concerned may be reached during regular working hours through their official email addresses and other official online communication platforms. Comelec’s official Facebook and Twitter accounts will be open for queries from the general public,” Jimenez added. (PNA)
