Opposition Senator Leila M. de Lima has appealed to her fellow Filipinos to pray for the people who are suffering from illness and the families who lost their loves ones to COVID-19 virus and the unabated killings in the country this Holy Week or Semana Santa.

In her Lenten message, De Lima, a devout Catholic, said the solemn occasion should also remind people to keep their faith to the Lord, which is being tested during these tough times.

Observed by Catholics across the world, Holy Week, most commonly known as Semana Santa in the Philippines and other countries, is a time for solemn prayer and reflections as people remember Christ’s suffering, death and resurrection.

De Lima, who remains unjustly detained over four years now, said she continues to pray for an end to the Filipinos’ sufferings brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and the government’s failed response to it.

Likewise, the lady Senator from Bicol urged the public to have faith in God, to continue praying for a better government, support their families and fellow pandemic fighters to survive adversity.
