Presidential aspirant and Aksyon Demokratiko bet Isko Moreno Domagoso assured that he will strengthen and solidify the agriculture and the education system to provide maintainable food security at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Domagoso, he said that the COVID-19 crisis affected the food security in the country and the latter should be prepared for the challenges especially living in a new normal.

During his campaign sortie in Los Banos, Domagoso promised to invest in food security by reviving the agriculture and education industries to assure that every Filipinos has food on their table.

“If I get elected, we will continue to invest in food security and the best way to do it is to revive and strengthen agriculture education,” Domagoso said in Filipino, describing food insecurity as the “number one threat to our national security.”

In addition, the University of the Philippines (UP) Los Banos, according to Domagoso, is also an asset to the International Rice Research Institute that fights poverty, hunger, and malnutrition through rice science.

According to Domagoso, he wondered about the importation of rice, garlic, onion, and other market products to other countries and benefited from it, and yet, our own production has already diminished and also nothing left on our end.

“Napakinabangan ito [IRRI] ng iba’t ibang bansa, bakit lumabas bandang huli nag i-import na tayo ng bigas tapos nagtataka ako bakit tayo, nawawala na ‘yung bawang sa norte, bakit hirap na hirap ang magsisibuyas sa Nueva Ecija because our market is flooded with imported products, eh paano na ‘yung mga magsasaka?” Domagoso lamented on the situation of the farmers.

If elected as President, Domagoso would improve the institution and teaching professions to link them to the farmers.

Domagoso is running for presidency under the Aksyon Demokratiko this 2022 national election. He served as the Mayor of Manila from 2019 up to the present.
