The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Thursday assured that the works on the damaged flood control structure in Talisay City, Cebu will be completed in two months.

During the inspection of the damaged infrastructure along the Mananga River, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said he got the assurance from the local government unit and DPWH officials that the rebuilding of the structure will be completed by June.

“The President asked me to come back to make sure that our reconstruction is fast. I have the assurance of our Regional Director, through the help of Governor (Pamela Baricuatro) and Mayor Samsam (Gullas), that we will finish before June,” he said.

He added that they will conduct 24/7 operations to expedite the repair of structures before the rainy season.

“My instruction to our Regional Director and to all our District Engineers (is) to work double time, if they can work 24/7, we will do that. Once the rainy season starts, it will be difficult for us to do the works. So, we really need to complete this soon,” Dizon said, who was accompanied by the Cebu Governor.

“In two to three months, it’s rainy season again, we have to take advantage of the good weather.”

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered the DPWH to expedite the repair of damaged public infrastructure in Cebu to prevent a repeat of the severe flooding caused by Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi) in November last year.

The typhoon made landfall in Borbon, northern Cebu, battering the province, causing damage to crops and structures, and displacing people. (PNA)
