The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported on Saturday the completion of two flood mitigating structures worth over PHP66 million in La Union.

DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel Tan said in a statement that the twin projects will protect lives and properties in three villages in the municipalities of Sudipen and Agoo.

An eight-meter high revetment wall was constructed along the riverbanks of Amburayan River in Sudipen, spanning 260 meters in Barangay Porporiket.

A total of PHP27.99 million was allocated under the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA) for the project implemented by La Union First District Engineering Office from February to April.

The La Union Second District Engineering Office, meanwhile, completed 14 flood control structures in Agoo to benefit residents of the villages of San Julian Norte and San Julian West.

The reconstruction of the 653-meter damaged shore protection wall was worth PHP38.3 million. (PNA)
