Around 15,487 families or 69,323 individuals in 98 barangays are affected by the massive flooding in the Eastern Visayas, Region 10 and Caraga regions due to heavy rainfall caused by shearline, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Monday.
Social Marketing Service director Marlouie Sulima said based on a report by the DSWD Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC), 55 of the barangays were in Caraga and Northern Mindanao regions.
In a statement, the DSWD said 9,409 affected families or 45,813 residents were sent to 34 evacuation centers in Caraga and Region 10.
Some 118 families, however, were reportedly staying temporarily with their respective relatives in the area.
Sulima said they are working closely with local government units where the victims of the calamity are found and ensure that relief efforts are properly maintained.
“We are in constant coordination with DSWD field offices in the affected localities to determine the quantity of family food packs (FFPs) needed to be delivered,” he said, adding they have around 60,905 pre-positioned FFPs that are in stand-by status, ready for immediate distribution among the victims.
Sulima said there are also 39,399 FFPs in the possession of the National Response Operations Center at the National Capital Region, while 21,506 FFPs are readied in the Visayas Disaster Response Center in Mandaue City. (PNA)
