Outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte hoped that his successor will still continue the government war on drugs during a speech in Lapu-Lapu City, Thursday, March 31.
Rodrigo Duterte worried about the possible revival of illegal drugs when his term ends in June. Since the 2016 campaign, Duterte has been very vocal in his campaign to stop the proliferation of drugs in the country.
Duterte expressed that our country is in jeopardy if the problem of drugs will not solve, citing that the next president should be enthusiastic in fighting his advocacy.
“I am not saying that anyone of them or all of them are incompetent. Masyadong paghambog iyan pero ang ano ko lang, if they are really as committed as me in fighting the insurgency and the drug problem of our country. ‘Yun lang ang worry ko,” Duterte stated.
Last March 21, he mentioned that whoever succeeds him should pursue fighting against drug problems that continuously deteriorate the country.
About PHP 76.01 billion worth of illegal drugs has been seized according to the data of Real Number listed by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) from June 2016 until March 30 this year.
As of February 2022, 14, 648 high-value targets had been arrested. Amid these numbers, Duterte vowed to protect the police officers who are on the frontline of the drug operations.
