President Rodrigo Duterte said the next administration will likely bear the brunt of the oil hikes caused by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
In his speech in Clark, Pampanga on Sunday, he warned his successor to brace for the possibility that escalating tensions between the two countries could skyrocket oil prices.
Duterte also raised concerns that the Russia-Ukraine may be prolonged and might escalate to nuclear war.
“Iyong giyera ngayon, it will not end. It’s an attrition. Iyong patagalan na shooting each other there… Pag nuclear na, wala na tayong pag-usapan, wala na tayong i-import pati… Bakit man kayo? Tapos na man lahat ,” he said.
Duterte appealed to transport groups protesting against fuel price hikes to understand the factors prompting the surge.
“Every time that you complain and go into a demonstration, just make sure that you realize and understand the importance of oil and how it would affect all nations.” he added.
Earlier, Duterte condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, describing the armed conflict as “brutal”.
Meanwhile, Malacañang said the Philippines joins the rest of the world in praying for an “early and peaceful” resolution to the conflict.
