Former Senator John Henry “Sonny” Osmeña passed away on Tuesday afternoon, his sister Annie Osmeña-Aboitiz confirmed. He was 86.
According to Osmeña-Aboitiz, he died in his condominium unit in Cebu City and was “immediately cremated”.
The former lawmaker, who had just turned 86 last January 17, had just recovered from the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) in July.
As of writing, his family did not release any information about the cause of death.
Prior to being a senator for three terms, Osmeña served as the Cebu City Councilor and Vice Mayor in the 1960s.
Following that was his delegation at the House of Representatives.
The seasoned politician then went on to take a seat at the Senate from 1971 up to 2004.
Osmeña was previously elected as the Toledo City mayor from 2013 to 2019.
