Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar on Saturday commended two more female cops for going beyond their call of duty after helping a woman successfully give birth in Dumalag, Capiz.
He said Cpl. Mary Joy Fusin, a registered nurse, and S/Sgt. Maybelle Legario did not hesitate to help Tirisa Bindol and her husband when the couple sought assistance from Dumalag Municipal Police Station.
“Saludo ako sa dalawang pulis na ito na hindi nagdalawang-isip tumulong sa mag-asawang Bindol. Marami pa rin talagang mga pulis na handang tumugon sa kahit anong pangangailangan ng kanilang kapwa (I salute these two policemen who did not hesitate to help the Bindol couple. There are still really many police officers who are willing to respond to any need of their fellow man),” Eleazar said.
Bindol and her husband were already on their way to the Dao District Hospital when the expectant mother felt severe labor pains, indicating she was very close to giving birth. Her husband immediately sought assistance from police officers at the Dumalag Police Station.
Seeing the distressed couple, Fusin and Legario immediately responded and helped deliver Bindol’s baby. After the delivery, the infant was immediately brought to the Dumalag Health Center.
“Sa kabila ng mga pagsubok na hinaharap natin, marami ding pulis ang nagpapakita ng kabutihan at magandang serbisyo. Ito ay isa lamang sa napakaraming patunay na higit na nakakarami ang mabubuting pulis sa aming hanay (Despite the challenges we are facing, many police officers still show kindness and good service. This is just one of the many proofs that there are more good cops in our ranks),” he added.
He urged other police officers to emulate the acts of kindness and genuine public service shown by Fusin and Legario.
Last week, Eleazar lauded police officers in Benguet and Catanduanes for their babysitting initiatives.
Personnel from the Mankayan Municipal Police Station and the Women and Children’s Protection Desk not just helped a woman who went to the police station regarding her personal concern, but they also assisted her tending to her child.
Cpl. Ghrills Linnum and Pat. Aileen De Los Reyes took care of the woman’s baby so she could focus on talking to authorities over her concerns. The police officers even lulled the infant to sleep.
In Virac, Catanduanes, M/Sgt. Catherine Surban of the Virac, Catanduanes police did not hesitate to breastfeed a baby when she heard that the infant was crying while with his father at the police station.
The father went there to seek police assistance as the mother of the child supposedly abandoned them.
Eleazar said he would see to it that the police officers wll be given due recognition for their good deeds.
