The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in this capital town of Antique has recorded a few registrants during the last day of the voter registration on Monday.

“We have already anticipated that we will be receiving only a few remaining applications on the last day, for we have already conducted registration in all of the 28 barangays of our municipality,” said San Jose de Buenavista Municipal Election Officer Johnna Catilo in an interview.

Catilo said they brought the last leg of the satellite registration to the Robinsons Place on May 5-18 to make it more accessible. However, during the duration, only 420 were served, including the 171 applicants on the last day.

The number brings to more or less 2,000 applicants who were reached out since January this year in preparation for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in November.

Catilo is expecting that the qualified voters in the capital town could reach around 40,000 once the Election Registration Board convenes and approves the latest batch of applications on June 1.

As of April 21, San Jose de Buenavista has 39,452 registered voters. (PNA)
