GAME OVER! POGOs Patay Na Sa EO Ni PBBM

Sapat na ang Executive Order (EO) na pinirmahan ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.  para mapatigil ang operasyon ng mga Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs), internet gaming licensees (IGLs), at iba pang offshore gaming licensees. 

Pagdidiin ng Pangulo, hindi na kailangan magpasa pa ng batas para sa nasabing pagbabawal dahil “sufficient” na ang EO na pinirmahan niya noong November 5. Sinabi ito ni Marcos sa sidelines ng isang event sa Paranaque City.

Paliwanag niya, malinaw na hindi saklaw ng Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) ang karapatan na magbigay ng lisensya para sa offshore gaming.

“There is just no way because it’s the nature of the operation that we are banning. It’s not because it’s under Pagcor or not. Basta’t sinabing – basta’t POGO ‘yan, basta’t ganyan ang lisensya nila, it’s banned,” ayon sa Pangulo.

Lumabas ang isyung ito matapos ipunto ni Senadora Risa Hontiveros na tila may butas sa EO, na baka daw makalusot ang mga POGO sa ilalim ng mga Pagcor-operated casinos at iba pang integrated resorts na may junket agreements. 

Pero giit ni Marcos, ang pagbabawal ay hindi lang para sa mga POGO kundi sa nature mismo ng gaming operations.

Kasama sa pagbabawal sa EO 74 ang pagtigil ng lahat ng application, license renewals, at ang mga kasalukuyang operasyon ng mga offshore gaming license holders na illegal.
